Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
Aim of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) Programme at Dayanand Ayurvedic College, Jalandhar is to produce experts in the field of Ayurvedic system of medicine, to help ailing humanity through native wisdom in health and medicine. Studies are based on understanding human body from holistic angle. Disease is considered as a stage of imbalance of body Biochemistry (Doshas) which is brought to the stage of equilibrium with the help of food habits and living style modification. Curriculum of B.A.M.S. course consists of studies of human Anatomy, physiology, metaphysics, Detailed information about plants, minerals and animal products as medicine, preparation of various herbo mineral formulations, diagnosis of pathological state of body called disease, and their management and treatment. Various branches of studies consists of Medicine, Surgery, Eye, E.N.T., Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Panchkarma.


Mode of selection and admission

Total Seats - 50, Govt. Quota Seats - 25, Management Seats - 17+8 NRI.

  • The Govt Quota seats would be filled up by the admission & committee appointed by the govt. on the basis of merit in PMET - 2005 conducted by the University.
  • The management quota seats would be filled by a committee headed by the Principal and comprising the representatives each of the govt. and the University, strictly on the basis of merit in the PMET 2005 or on the basis of the test conducted by the institute in allowed by the admission supervision committee. The Principal will request the govt and the University well in advance for nominating their representatives. Govt. quota seats remaining vacant will be transferred to management quota and vice versa.
  • NRI quota is a part of management quota.
  • The candidates against NRI seats in the colleges will be admitted on the basis of merit determined on the basis of marks obtained in Physics, chemistry and Biology (PCB) in the qualifying examination. The eligibility, merit and equivalence of the candidates will be determined by Baba Farid University. They are not required to appear in PMET however they are required to be eligible for administration in the relevant course as per qualification of the respective councils.

Preference :

For admission to the seats reserved to NRI candidates, preference to the exclusion of other will be given as follows :

  1. First preference will be given to NRIs having ancestral origin in Punjab.
  2. Second preference will be given to NRIs having ancestral origin in states other than Punjab.
  3. Third preference will be given to those Indians who are sponsored by the NRIs.
  4. Fourth preference will be given to those students who are willing to pay the fee in Indian currency equivalent to the stipulated fees.
Note : If sufficent number of candidates under first category are eligible and available than they will be admitted first even if students under subsequent category are higher in merit.

Fees : An amount of US $ 15,000 will be charged from NRI students.

Note :

  1. Fees less than this will not be charged by the college under any circumstances.
  2. The NRI students will have to give a bank gurantee for the balance fee if they opt to pay for in installments.

Vacant Seats : Seats remaining vacant under NRI category will go to management quota.

Reservation : The reservation in government quota seats will be as follows (Total : 31%)

(a) Scheduled Caste - 25%
(b) Backward Classes - 5%
(c) Migrants from Jammu and Kashmir, due to terrorist voilence 1%.

Explanation : The following point shall be observed while granting above reservation both in government and private college.

(a) The candidate under category A (d) shall be admitted only if he/she has locomotory disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% disability and with this disability he/she is otherwise found fit medically to pursue the course in the speciality concerned by the Medical Board duly constituted by the Government and consisting of Heads of the respective Departments of three government Medical Colleges at Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot.

(b) The reservation for handicapped category is 3%. The MCI has clarified that only orthopaedically handicap are entitled to reservation and students having hearing/visual impairment are not eligible for reservation. There is no reservation in BDS course for this category.

(c) For the claim of reservation in category (h) above a certificate to this effect issued by Inspector General Police (HQ), Punjab shall have to be produced while submitting other documents. In case of Paramilitary Forces this certificate shall be countersigned by IG Police (HQ) Punjab.

(d) The above reservation will be made in each speciality/college separately subject to the availability of seats as per instructions issued by the Government of Punjab from time. The reservation in each institution shall not exceed 25% in case of SC and 30% in case of SC and BC combined together.

(e) Students claiming benefits of reservation under SC/BC category will be required to produce a certificate from the competent authority as per instructions of the Department of Welfare No. 1/41/96-RCI/110001-17 Dated Chandigarh 5/12/1996 (for SC) and 1/41/93-RCI/459 dated 17/1/1994 (for BC).

(f) Candidate belonging to SC/BC will be eligible for admission against general seats as per combined merit in PMET-2005 and they will not be counted against the reserved points.

(g) In the case of Sports Category, relative merit of the candidates shall be determined on the basis of sports performance during 10+1 and 10+2 academic course by the Director Sports, Punjab.

(h) For 15% quota in BAMS/BHMS as per para (C2) above on all India basis shall the reservation applicable will be - 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for the handicapped.

(i) If any seat from any reserved category is left unfilled, such seat will fall to the general category.

(j) The candidates claiming reservation need not submit the required certificates at the time of application for PMET. Mere stipulation by them in the OMR application form and the answer sheet would be sufficient. The certificates will however be required at the time of applying for admission after the declaration of the result.

(k) The University will include the detailed guidelines and forms of certificates for the above mentioned categories in the prospectus.

Mode of Examination/Counselling

Date of test, examination centres, conditions and modalities for the conduct of PMET-2005 and counselling shall be decided and notified by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

RULES FOR PAYMENT OF DUES

Fee : Rs. 35000 (For Govt quota & Management quota) seats.

  1. Students admitted in BAMS Ist Prof. will be required to make full payments on next working day. Payment in installments will not be accepted. Fees for next sessions will have to be deposited on the commencement of the financial year i.e. in the month of April every year.
  2. Payment of fees by the govt quota and management quota candidates must be made either by cash against a proper receipt or by a Bank Draft drawn in favour of Principal “Dayanand Ayurvedic College”, Jalandhar. Cheques etc. will not be accepted.
  3. Payment of fees by NRI/NRI sponsored candidates will be made by Demand draft in US$. Any seat remaining/falling vacant, which will be offered to Indian Candidates shall carry the same fee and may be paid in Indian Currency (equivalent to US$ 15,000).
  4. The fees mentioned is subject to change in accordance with the decision of the Courts/Govt. of Punjab/B.F.U.H.S.
    Except security, dues once paid will not be refunded.
  5. In case a student leaves the college during session, he/she will have to deposit the dues for the whole session.
  6. Name of the student not paying the dues till 15 days after the scheduled date will be struck off from the college rolls. Such students may be re-admitted on payment of readdmission fee and fine if allowed by the principal.
  7. A student who is absent or on leave must arrange to pay his dues on the scheduled date.
  8. A student not paying the dues will not be allowed to appear in the house examinations.
  9. A student failing in any subject in the University examination shall be required to pay the tution fee at the rate of Rs. 1,000/- (US $ 250 for NRI/Foreign category student) per subject.
  10. A student failing in all the subjects in the University examination shall be required to pay a lump sum of Rs. 4,000/- (US $ 1000 for NRI/Foreign category student) per subject.

Note :
The fee structure is annual and provisional and subject to change in light of the judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in TMA PA I Foundation Vs. State of Karnatka (2002) 8-SCC-481 and Islamic Acedemy of Education Vs. State of Karnataka [(2003) 6-SCC-697]

The candidate shall be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and Surgery (BAMS/Ayurvedacharya) by BFUHS. Faridkot, after completion of prescribed course of study extending over the prescribed period and passing the final examination and satisfactory completion of one year compulsory rotatory internship.

DURATION OF COURSE : 5-1/2 years distributed as follow :

Ist professional 18 months
2nd professional 18 months
3rd professional 18 months
Internship One Year

Note : Internship is compulsory and degree will be awarded only after completing the internship.

COMPULSORY INTERNSHIP

1. The compulsory rotating internship is to be completed in the college hospital after passing the final examination.
2. On full completion of the internship as certified by the Principal, the candidate shall be eligible for the award of Ayurdedacharya (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & surgery) Degree.

HOUSE EXAMINATION

House examination shall be held at the end of each professional. Date, time & Venue will be notified as required.

CRITERIA FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT/CLASS WORK

1. The following factors may be taken into consideration in determining class work in the subject.

(i) Attendance
(ii) House Examination

2. A class schedule card shall be maintained for each student. The Principal shall arrange to obtain the signature of the student and teacher at the end of each course of lectures and practical instructions and send the card to head of the departments for the final completion before the commencement of each examination.

3. The card shall obtain statement that the student has attended not less than 3/4 of the theory lectures and practical classes and not less than 85% of clinical instructions of which course consists. This card shall be submitted to examiners as required.

Panchkarma Programs

    In order to update the knowledge of the doctors already working in various levels, a certificate course in Panchkarma of one month's duration is being run by the college in the month of Sep/Oct. More than 10-12 students join this course every year and fee of Rs. 12,500/- is being charged from every student and so college is getting more than Rs. 1 lac every year out of this course at the same time. Students already practicing in the field come to contact with Dayanand Ayurvedic College, Jalandhar thereby developing more confident by referring their patients to this hospital for Panchkarma therapy.

    Other Training Programs

  1. Kshar Sutra Training Programme
  2. RCH Training Programme which was funded by Govt. of India.
  3. Regular Panchkarma Training Programme for one month is also being organised.
